CBT is based on the idea that your thoughts, feelings, physical sensations and behaviours are interconnected, as an example you may notice that your negative thoughts can impact upon you physically, both causing you to behave in a different way such as avoiding things and you may begin to feel more negative emotions, the responses then all work together and you can feel trapped into a vicious cycle.
CBT aims to help you deal with these overwhelming problems in a more positive way by understanding your cycle and working on each group of symptoms in turn to prevent them working together to create that cycle.
You are shown how to change these negative patterns to improve the way you feel and are taught strategies and techniques to deal with your symptoms as they arise.
